October 26, 2007 - SB 1001 (Perata) Vetoed by Governor Shwarzanegger. The bill would have reduced the balance of appointments on the nine regional water boards. CAIA wrote a letter of opposition on this bill.

October 24, 2007 - CAIA Member and Past President Fred Hamisch receives Irrigation Association's Industry Achievement Award. Fred, a founding father of Irrigation Dealers Association of California and California Agricultural Irrigation Association, will receive his award at the IA's International Irrigation Show in December. September 21, 2007 - CAIA Issues Letter of Support for Governor Schwarzenegger's Water Plan

At the CAIA Fall Meeting held at Coarsegold in September, CAIA Directors and Members attended a tour of Friant Dam and the proposed Temperance Flat Storage site. The attendees heard and saw first hand the importance of supporting the Governor's Comprehensive Water Plan, the current affects to the agricultural and irrigation industries, rural and urban communities, and future water issues that will impact the state.

Tour attendees were boated out to the proposed Temperance Flat site and heard from Bil Swanson, Vice President of MWH, the specific details of the project both environmentally and beneficially. Upon returning to the historic Friant Courthouse a very educational presentation and packets were provided by Mario Santoyo, assistant general manager of Friant Water Authority. Also in attendance were representatives from the Bureau of Reclamation and Governor Schwarzenegger's office.

At the Member meeting, Dan Keppen, Farmily Farm Alliance, gave a very informational presentation on the Alliance's report titled, "Water Supply in a Changing Climate". Following dan's presentation, State Senator Jeff Denham also expressed the importance of addressing the state's water issues, both as an Association and individuals.

September 13, 2007 - CAIA Opens Board Nominations

California Agricultural Irrigation Association officially opened nominations for three board members who will soon have fulfilled their Board terms effective December 31, 2007. Members of the Association will soon be receiving their nominations letters via postal mail.

Once nominations have been received and nominees contacted, CAIA election ballots will be mailed to the voting members of the Association. Elected Members will be notified and introduced at the CAIA Spring Meeting on February 12, 2008, in Tulare. For more information on the Spring Meeting, visit the Calendar of Events page.
